With the 2014 Ryder cup about to get under way at Gleneagles now is the prefect time to download the official app. The app is free from the app store for iPhone and iPad users and free on the Google Play store for Android users. The app has all the latest news and scores from the pinnacle of the golfing calendar and we’re hoping to see Europe smash the USA and keep the trophy. Before its gets underway the 2014 Ryder cup app has a count down until the first ball is hit. But once the competition is under way then it really becomes the perfect companion to watching the golf, or keeping up with the score if you can’t watch it live.
2014 Ryder cup app review
There’s loads of great features on this app that will bring the game to life as soon as the first ball is hit, here’s our guide to the app –
For us this the best thing about this app, yes the news and videos are good but what we really wanted is push scores. I know we’ll be watching a lot of it but like most people we won’t get to watch every minute of the action. With the push alerts for iPhone, iPad and Android you’re not going to miss any of the action. You can select what you want to be pushed too, you can have just the match results if you like or the total score at the end of the day. If you want a more in depth guide to the action theres an option for all match alerts or you can even set alerts just for set matches – a great option if you’ve had a bet on a certain player. You can also get alerts for any breaking news and video highlights. As the first ball hasn’t been hit as we write this we cannot give any information on the speed of quality of these alerts but we’re expecting them to be good!

In the media tab at the bottom you’ll find links to the latest news including video highlights and interviews with the players. This covers everything to do with the event including practise rounds and the celebrity pro am challenge. There’s also highlights of the days golf and photos from around the course including some fan photos so if you’re at the course send yours in to them.
For the first time the 2014 Ryder cup app has a social section where you can find tweets from each of the teams as well as all the players tweets in the one place. At the top you can select between team Europe or Team USA from the official tweets or choose to see the “fans” tweets. To get on the fans tweets you just need to tweet including #Rydercup or similar it seams.
Scoring and live
These will both come into play once the golf is under way with the scoring showing the overall score and the scores from the live games today. the live section will be a blog format and will be a written guide to the play. You will also have the option for the Ryder cup live radio with live commentary from around the course.
Overall we really like the design and responsiveness of the 2014 Ryder cup app and are looking forward to keeping track of the scores once the play gets underway – #goteameurope
