Bleacher Report: Sports news app

Bleacher report sports news app

Bleacher Report is one of the most popular sites for sports news and content and it can now be brought straight to your mobile with tow options for the Bleacher app. With more than 10 million downloads so far and great reviews, these are apps that grab your attention straight away. There was previously a team stream app as well but this has since been integrated into to the report app.

They are available from the iTunes store for iPhone and iPad, as well as from the Google Play store for various Android devices. It’s also now available as an Apple Watch app for iPhone. We cover both apps in our review.

So what is Bleacher and what is the Report?

Bleacher Report is a website dedicated to team-specific sports content and real-time event coverage. The app is its mobile offering and it certainly delivers on the promise.

Bleacher is more well known in the United States but its coverage of global sports is not impeded by being an American offering. You can easily set this up for England Ashes updates if you’re brave enough.

But the app is a lot more than just a mobile version of the main site, however good that is. The app also boasts news and updates from a range of sources across the web, such as blogs and Twitter feeds of top players. It really is a hub of content for sports fans.

Here is how the app looks when you first set up –

The app delivers breaking news and score update notifications. You’ll often find a lot of the notifications deliver genuinely fresh news updates almost as soon as it breaks on Twitter etc.

It’s fully integrated with Facebook and Twitter, which is pretty much a must-have for a team-based sports app these days. But it works well and makes it easy to share updates with friends.

There are a couple of downsides perhaps, mainly around a lack of customisation, but what it lacks in customisation it makes up for in other areas of the app. Plus you can set the updates for your favourite teams so there it’s not like you get bombarded with news on a load of sports and teams you’re not interested in.

Bleacher Report app download for iOS & Android

The Bleacher Team Stream app is available for all mobile and tablet devices, including Android & iOS. In terms of sports news app, this remains one of the best on the market to-date.

Reviews on Google Play are pretty well second to none in terms of quality and quantity – 4.5-star average from an astonishing 94,000 reviewers!

And now, the Team Steam app can be offered as an Apple iWatch compatible version. This works really well since the app is an update, stream-based service that sends little notifications to you – which ties in nicely with how you tend to use a smartwatch. It’s great for catching live scores as they happen.

The app and the main site are team-based, so unlike a standard sports news app, it’s all about picking the teams you love and get real-time streams with the alerts that matter. That means you can get all the info you want and none of the stuff you don’t.

Once you have opened a stream you will get all the scores, stories, videos, and pictures for your team from virtually every source imaginable. So you’ll get news from local papers, national websites, blogs, Twitter, and,

of course, from the main Bleacher Report site.

Social Integration

Social sharing is set up easily as it’s all integrated with Twitter and Facebook.

This is one of the better sports news sites, mainly because it has such a good spread of content. You’re not limited to just Bleacher Report updates so the app actually brings you the full buffet of news, scores, updates and the rest on your teams.

Exclusive Content

As the team behind Bleacher have grown so has their access to stars. They now have selected exclusive content on the app that you won’t find from anyone else. This can be interviews with NBA or football stars or selected content and stats. This is a great edge for this app and helps to set it apart from other apps.

  • My teams – The latest news from your selected feeds
  • Alerts – Find any alerts you may have missed
  • Scores – Latest scores from sport around the world, tab across the top to fond other sports

Bleacher Live App

BR Live appAs a side from the main app, there is also a live app that you can download free on i0s and Android. This allows you to stream sports from around the world directly to your mobile or tablet (subscription required).

This is an interesting option but it is currently not available in the UK. If you are looking to stream live football check out our guide to football betting apps where some offer streaming of La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and more.

In terms of technical specs, for the Apple version, the app requires iOS 7.0 or later, and it is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and now the Apple Watch.
