Why do the odds change when I’m placing a bet?
This happens a lot if you’re betting in play. The odds change based on time and events in the game. There is usually a 7-10 second delay between you pushing the place bet button and the bet placing. This is so you can’t be live at a game and get a bet on before the news has hit the bookies about what is going on. Someone in Australia was recently arrested for getting bets on the tennis from in the stand before Betfair got the notification of the points.
Why can I not install some apps?
To get the latest apps you need to have the latest software installed for your mobile operating system. Check in your device’s software update settings to see if there is an update available. Alternatively you can visit the relevant bookmaker’s mobile website and save this to your homepage, rather than installing the dedicated app.
My betting app has frozen and will not load correctly. What should I do?
The first thing to try is to completely shut down the app and open it back up again. If this does not resolve the issue there may be a general server problem affecting the service. Check to see if the app loads correctly on a different device or check social media to see if anyone else is experiencing issues at the same time.
If people are or the app is failing to load across multiple devices, then it will be a matter of waiting for the relevant online bookmaker to fix the issue. They are normally quick at sorting these errors as the longer it is down, the longer the bookmaker is losing out on taking bets. If the app is loading on other devices, try uninstalling the app from the device it is failing to load on and then re-installing it.
If the problem persists after re-installation, contact the betting app’s support team, reporting the issues you are experiencing.
My Android device will not allow me to install betting apps that are not from the Play Store.
By default Android devices are set to block the installation of apps that have not been approved by Google. Any app that falls outside of the Google Play Store has not been checked or approved by Google. This is not to say that the app is not safe, just that it has not been checked and approved.
This security setting can be switched off to enable users to install unauthorised apps. Depending on which Android version you are running will depend how to remove this block.
Android 8.0 Oreo and onwards
Go to settings and tap on the “apps and notifications” option. Now select “advanced, followed by “Special App Access”. Finally, tap “Unknown Apps” and from the list of applications presented, choose the mobile web browser from which you wish to use to side-load third party apps.
Android 7.0 Nougat and previous
Select the settings icon on your device and then tap on “Security Settings”. Now turn on the checkbox alongside “Unknown Sources”. Your device will now be ready to install apps from outside of the google Play Store.
