As we head in to the last fortnight of this transfer window, the transfer gossip is as hot as ever. Certain clubs are desperate for fresh blood, some players are looking for more game time and fans want rid of deadwood and the superstars to come aboard.
There’s plenty of speculation in the media currently and we have rounded up the gossip that has caught our eye and are worth a discussion. Check them out below.
Latest Transfer Gossip
Phil Jones for sale if right price is met
Phil Jones is looking for more playing time as he nears toward the end of his career. Manchester United are reported to be steadfast in rejecting all offers below £15m.
That may leave Phil Jones in limbo as teams with the intention of forking out that sort of cash may well see better value in chasing down other options.
Jones appeared teary eyed as the United fans sang his name in his appearance against Wolves. That was his first appearance in over two years.
Taking Phil Jones on the cheap could have been attractive to some of the clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League.
However, a pumped up price for a player coming with plenty of risk due to lack of game time, it’s not looking likely that anyone will be willing to take the punt.
Christian Eriksen returning to the Premier League?
Speaking of risks, There’s plenty of transfer gossip relating to Christian Eriksen. Brentford are allegedly in talks with Eriksen over a possible 6 month deal.
Other clubs are supposed to have also shown interest in acquiring the Dane’s services until the end of the season.
Eriksen was forced to leave Inter due to the Italian rule that players are not allowed to play with an implanted defibrillator – something that Eriksen had fitted after collapsing at the Euros.
This hasn’t stopped English clubs from making enquiries and Eriksen is reportedly assessing his options.
Fabian Schar wanted by Bordeaux
Schar has been a dependable asset to Newcastle this season, despite what the league table may say. If the latest transfer gossip is correct, he has caught the eye of French club Bordeaux, who are fighting their own relegation battle.
The Swiss defender would be available for free when his contract expires in the summer, but Bordeaux’s desperate situation means they cannot afford to wait till the summer to benefit from his talents.
Howe has deep pockets and is looking to bolster the squad as much as he can in this window. That could well mean that Schar’s exit may not be critical to the future plans and if a nominal fee could be acquired, all the better.
Benzema and Hazard unhappy at Madrid
Real Madrid president is apparently on the hunt to add Erling Haaland to his squad list and Benzema has reportedly spat his dummy out.
The Daily Mail have printed that Benzema has said that he will leave the club if Haaland was to join in the summer.
Benzema has been doing the business this season in front of goal and interests elsewhere seems to have been taken as an insult.
Eden Hazard looked somewhat quite miserable in the photos taken of Real Madrid celebrating after their Super Cup victory. He has been given very little chance to showcase his talents with only one 90 minute appearance this season.
He was not required in the Super Cup win and his demeanour is that of someone who feels like a spare part.
Hazard is obviously not happy and with only a few years left in him, he cannot afford to stay silent if he wants to get the most out of them.
No club has actively shown any real interest at this point, which could see Hazard attempt to force his own way out of the club. If he did, there will be surely clubs willing to offer a solution.
Tuchel in the market for a left back
Ben Chilwell’s season long injury has left Thomas Tuchel in a bit of a pickle. Marcus Alonso is not getting any younger and playing through a hectic schedule could well burn him out.
Tuchel has therefore been sniffing around Italy and France looking for potential candidates to bring in on loan. PSG defender Layvin Kazawa is the latest name to be singled out as being on Tuchel’s hit list.
Howe looking to strengthen goalkeeping options
Latest gossip is that Eddie Howe is also eyeing up PSG for potential business. Howe has already strengthened the attack with Wood and the defence with Trippier.
The latest transfer gossip is that he is after a new goalkeeper and Keylor Navas appears to fit the bill. Donnarumma has arrived at PSG and is waiting on the sidelines for his chance between the sticks. Therefore, Navas could well be a viable option.
News is also rife that Howe is not looking to stop there. Diego Carlos and Duvan Zapata have also been highlighted as targets for Newcastle.
Spanish media claim Firmino off to Barcelona in the summer
Quite a few media outlets are breaking the news that Klopp has offered up Firmino for a move to Barcelona in the summer for £16.7m
His role at Liverpool is set to be more significant in the absence of Salah and Firmino and his performances on the pitch could well dictate his future come June.
If he can avoid injury and put on some good shifts, he could well be seeing out the end of his career playing for the Spanish giants – as long as Barcelona can balance the books!
Everton look to appoint new manager
Everton have parted ways with Rafa after a horrific season so far. They are just six points away from the relegation zone.
Somebody needs to come in, who can make an immediate impact and Roberto Martinez is favourite to be the man to attempt that. Betfred were offering the best price on Martinez to be next manager, at time of writing, at 5/4.
Duncan Ferguson and Wayne Rooney’s name have been out in to the mix, but their lack of experience at first team management of a Premier League club will surely see them as too risky to consider.
Graham Potter and Nuno Espírito Santo could have their heads turned if the right deal was put in front of them, making this an interesting spectacle to watch play out.
Van de Beek snubs potential move to Newcastle
Donny Van de Beek may not be playing as frequently as he would like at Manchester United, but that doesn’t appear to sway him towards showing interest in the first club who come knocking for him.
Newcastle were asking questions around the Dutch player, but Van de Beek has been quick to speak out to show he is not interested. The precarious position of Newcastle down at the foot of the table is a fight that Van de Beek does not want to be a part of and as such, he is odds on to remain a Manchester United player come the end of the transfer window.
