William Hill app overview

Live updates – Where the William Hill Darts app really wins is in the live play options – after all this is an app built around in-play betting.

The live dartboard shows shots as they hit the board so you can plot the game in progress, making it easier than ever to figure out the course of the match, and place your bets accordingly.

You can zoom in and out of the dartboard making this feel like an interactive experience, in fact this really is the next best thing to watching the event live.

The markets covered here, while focusing on in-play betting, are wide and varied, with everything including leg winner, highest checkout, number of 180s and correct score covered through William Hill’s competitive markets.

It’s incredibly easy to place your bets – all you need to do is log into your William Hill account. You’ll need to set up an account separately if you don’t have one, although it must be said you can simply view updates in the latest matches without a William Hill account.

Not that you would be making the most of the app by taking that option, the whole user experience is placed around the betting markets, and with good reason.

This really is the best way to bet on the darts from a mobile device.

User experience

Is there anything more frustrating than fiddly user interfaces when you’re wanting to place an in-play bet?

There’s nothing worse than losing out on a winning punt just because you couldn’t navigate through the website or app in time.

Luckily, that won’t be a problem here! This app is as intuitive as it gets – every button has its place and the only things that are included are essential in enriching the app experience.

The main screen shows the latest score and live dartboard, with two more bet buttons dominating the centre of the screen.

The only other clickable buttons on this screen are the settings, account and bet slip functions – all essential in making this app works for its users.

This is refreshing in a day and age when it often feels you have to navigate throngs of menus to get where you need to be.

Our only slight niggle was that upon login we were questioned on enabling location services which, being ever privacy-diligent, we declined.

As you are required to be in the UK or Ireland when using the app, this prevented it from working and meant going through the iPhone’s laborious privacy menus to reactivate. Not the end of the world, yet frustrating none-the-less.

Other apps get around this by prompting you ahead of the notification – could William Hill do the same? That being said this app is a truly unique and market-leading offering from William Hill.

In play darts betting app

It is undoubtedly part of the firm’s strategy to make the most of their partnership with the world’s leading darts tour, but when the results are this good, it’s well worth it.

We liked the streamlined interface and the wide range of in-play betting options, which made for a really enriching and rewarding experience, particularly when you place a winning bet.

And that’s before we get to the live simulated dartboard which truly does make this the next best bet to watching the events live.

The only trouble with it is figuring out just who is going to win, with darts often being such a notoriously difficult sport to predict.

But that only makes this all the more fun and a truly excellent option for any darts fan’s smartphone.
