Quick Take Aways
- I think Betfair has a great range of apps for people who like mixed gambling and not just sports betting.
- I would not recommend Betfair as your first sports betting app. There are other easier apps to get started with such as Bet Fred or Bet Victor.
How long have you used the app? I have used it regularly since 2014.
What is your favourite feature of this app? The liquidity in the exchange.
What is this app best for? A seasoned gambler.

Betfair Sports Review
Betfair are one of the biggest bookmakers on the planet. The brand is instantly recognisable, thanks to clever marketing ploys and heavy sponsorship investments. Control of the group lies with Flutter Entertainment, who also own other betting brands, such as Paddy Power, Skybet and Pokerstars.
The company started out as a dedicated exchange service that is still to this day seen as one of the best betting Exchange services available. However in 2014, Betfair launched a sports betting app in an attempt to compete with the more traditional bookmaker.
Many years later and the app has gone through many updates that continually improves the features and enhances the experience. Read on down the page for a full breakdown.
Betfair New Customer Offer
BET £10, GET £30 IN FREE BETS
Registering for a Betfair account is straightforward. Entering the necessary details such as name and address; creating a username and password and the account will be up and running.
You will have the opportunity to deposit funds into their account at this time but are not compelled to. However, without any funds in the account, bets obviously cannot be placed. You can set a deposit limit at this time if you wish.
There may be a further verification check required, whereby photos of identification documents are requested to verify a new account.
This is now standard practice for responsible betting companies within the UK and should not be seen as an extra hurdle. Instead, it is more of an added security step to minimise fraud and to keep the data safe for the general public.
Cash-out is available across a wide range of sports and markets. This is a common feature that enables you to cash out of their bets before the outcome has been settled.
Markets that have an orange square icon with a circle in the middle will have the cash-out feature attached to it.
You have the option of cashing out for the full amount offered, or cashing out a portion of the amount, leaving some of the stakes in to ride, keeping the bet live.
No Cash-Out Suspensions
Betfair has an exclusive offer that disables cash-out suspensions on specific sports or events. For example, at the time of reviewing Betfair was offering no cash out suspensions on football match odds markets.
Applies to Sportsbook match odds markets on majority of football. Available on qualifying competitions. excludes free bets, Exchange bets, Bet Builder and bet settlement window. T&Cs apply
Bookmakers will usually suspend cash-out offers when something significant is happening in the game. This can be a penalty or dangerous set-piece awarded, during injury time or due to a pending VAR decision.
With Betfair, that frustration can be removed leaving the full focus on whether or not to take the amount being dangled in front of you.
Betfair Bet Builder
The Bet Builder feature enables users to build their own personal bet by combining different markets from the same game into an accumulator. This feature is available across football and NFL events.
The feature was previously available under the label ‘Same Game Multi’. However, as Bet Builder became the industry standard term for the feature, Betfair quickly made a u-turn and renamed it using the more popular term.
The Bet builder system is efficient and allows users to add up to 20 different selections into the accumulator. The app will calculate and display the relevant odds as selections are added or removed.
Picks made in the bet builder fall into the bet slip. From here you can opt to place the bet as an accumulator, or place single bets on each individual selection.
Betfair has live video feeds available across football, tennis, horse racing, and greyhound racing. You can bet and then watch the action unfold from their mobile, all from the one app.
UK and Irish horse races can be watched, as long as a minimum £1 bet has been placed on the race in question. Greyhound racing, tennis, football, and USA horse racing can all be watched with just the requirement of a funded account.
The video player attached to the live streams is intuitive, allowing users to choose between a hybrid view; showing the live-action and available markets, a full-screen view (including widescreen), and picture-in-picture.
Picture quality is sharp and the stream is smooth, as long as you have a stable data connection. The minimum data connection recommended is 4G, with Wi-Fi being the preferred method.
The acca edge feature is an insurance feature that covers accumulators, should just one selection fail to land.
On selected markets, users placing a treble or greater can opt to take a lower odds return in exchange for their stake back if the accumulator misses by one.
This is similar to acca insurance offers which usually start at 5/6 results. It’s a great option to take on big access as odds still come out respectable and users can still cash out as normal too!
Each Way Edge
Users are also provided a good deal of flexibility when it comes to horse racing betting. Each Way Edge allows users to reduce the risk of the bet by adding more places that qualify.
Alternatively, users can also choose to reduce the number of places on the each-way terms to increase the risk and the odds on the single selection.
This feature will show from within the bet slip once an applicable selection has been placed there.
Once the Each Way check box has been ticked on the selection, users can then use the plus and minus buttons to modify the number of places away from the default. As places are added or removed, the odds change accordingly.
Deposit Funds On The High Street
Betfair now has a feature that enables you to deposit funds in cash on the high street.
Thanks to the Paddy Power connection, people out and about can nip into selected Paddy Power betting shops and fund their Betfair online account over the counter.
Pass the Paddy Power employees the desired amount to be deposited, along with a Betfair user ID and a form of photo identification and they will do the rest to successfully place that amount into the online account. A receipt will then be provided for proof of purchase.

Promotions And Bonuses
Betfair has a whole host of ever-changing promotions to keep its customer base engaged and active.
Enhanced odds are offered daily, personal boosts are regularly featured and the offers generally cater to a wide range of sports and events.
Betfair is known to offer out free daily games offering those who opt in to play the chance to win cash amounts, free spins, and free bets.
For example, one that has been featured recently was the prize pinball game. When these free games are available, expect them to be prominent across the scrolling banners at the top of the home page.
The Betfair Sports app has certainly packed a punch in the mobile gambling industry, since entering it back in 2014. It contains all the main features one would expect in a betting app and much more besides.
The app is regularly offering out promotions, enhancements, and bonuses to its existing customer base. It has a complimentary Exchange app makes this app a no-brainer for those who want to get involved in lay betting. The Betfair app definitely appears on our recommended list.
Other Betfair Apps
The Betfair Exchange app has always been the golden nugget of the pile. This is what has helped Betfair separate themselves away from the competition.
The Exchange app brings lay betting in to play, allowing users to lay bets for other users to bet on. Effectively, Betfair become the middle man in the transaction hosting a platform for people to bet against each other.
The bookmakers who provide this platform are few and far between. Betfair are by far the most experienced in this field and although commissions are a little higher here than other Exchange apps, the Betfair is still well regarded as being the best in the marketplace.
The Betfair casino app is packed full of classic games that people like to gamble on. Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat and Slots are all on offer here, in many different styles.
There’s a casino section built in to the Betfair sports app, but this app makes searching for specific titles and finding new games much easier of a task.
The theme here is that of a dark nature, whereas a light theme surrounds the casino hub on the sports app. Therefore we prefer to use the casino app at night or in a dark setting.
Exclusive promotions can be picked up here and are easily accessible from the top and bottom menu bars.
The Betfair Arcade app is aimed at those who love to play on the slots. Over 300 slots titles are housed here. With everything else stripped out, each game title has been given a bigger area of the screen, minimising the chance of a mis-tap.
A filter asking questions on the user’s preferences personalised the Betfair arcade app based on those answers. This makes it more likely for the games presented at the top of the home page to be of significant interest.
This is not an app we use on a regular basis. There’s enough slots titles made available on the sports and casino app to satisfy our needs in this particular genre.
The Betfair live casino app has been designed with a professional, slick looking interface. Only games involving live video streams are on offer here, but there’s plenty of them to explore, with new games being added regularly.
Games are categorised as follows:
- Exclusive Games – Games that can’t be found anywhere else.
- New & Hot – The latest titles that are proving popular. New games are added regularly.
- Game Shows – Titles such Spin a Win, Quantum Roulette and Hi-Lo can be found here.
- Live Bingo – Games that revolve around the famous bingo balls.
- Roulette – A list of live roulette tables, offering different wheel and style varieties.
- Blackjack – All the available Blackjack tables that accommodate a wide range of budgets. Tables can be joined offering 50p a hand all the way up to £1000.
- Poker – Three Card Brag, Hold’em and Stud poker are available from this section.
- Baccarat – Over ten different Baccarat tables to choose from, offering varieties such as Squeeze Baccarat, Speed Baccarat and Grand Baccarat.
- Dragon Tiger & Sic Bo – Popular Asian card and dice games that are simple and quick to play.
- Around the World – Live feeds to tables that are being hosted internationally. Tables can be joined from Countries such as Colombia, Brazil, Italy, Germany, India and Romania.
There’s lots going on inside the Betfair bingo app that should broaden the appeal out from the hardened bingo fans.
Tickets can be as low as 2p each in some rooms and speed bingo, 75 ball and the traditional 90 ball are all readily available.
Different themes in the rooms keeps the standard bingo from getting too monotonous, but with new Slingo titles added on a regular basis there plenty more try out.
Over 25 different Slingo titles and hundreds of slots have been integrated in to the app that compliments the bingo action magnificently.
The Betfair Poker app has a commonly used poker skin amongst the poker apps that are available to download.
It specialises in the poker format across traditional Texas Hold’em and Six Plus Hold’em.
There are speed games available, along with Twister poker and Sit & Go styles for quick games. Additionally there are multi-table tournaments for a more drawn out affair.
Users are also able to host their own private home games on the Betfair poker app by requesting this directly with Betfair. Betfair will then set up a table based on that request and it is then left to the user to distribute the password to friends looking to play.
The private game will appear in the poker lobby at either the time requested if it is a tournament or within two working days of the request if it is a cash game. Users need to select the game and then enter the password. Normal rake amounts apply.
The Betfair Exchange games app is lightweight and provides a twist on the play of Poker and Blackjack.
The app only has these two games available to play. The twist involves taking a back seat and betting on which hand will win, rather than actually being involved in the game itself.
For example in blackjack, a dealer deals out four hands face up for all to see and one face up and one face down for the dealers hand.
Players can the bet on hands they believe will beat the dealers, or lay bets on hands they think will not.
Players can bet/lay at various stages:
- After players have twisted and stuck/busted
- After reveal of dealers second card
- After dealer twist (if required).
As the play progresses, the odds on each hand winning changes at each stage, depending on its chances of beating the dealers hand.
Players can choose to get involved in the betting or just sit back and use the experience to study certain tactics or strategies.
The Tradefair app is Betfair’s spread betting, trading and CFD mechanism. It offers trading across thousands of markets from around the world and contains great analysis tools to help spot trends and opportunities.
Trades and spread bets can be made all around the clock, every day of the year and integrated watchlists makes it easy to keep track on potential markets to be invested in.
Spread betting can be very dangerous and users can end up losing more money than they initially invested. It is important to fully understand the risk before trading for real.
Risk management orders such as stop, limit and guaranteed stop losses are present that can reduce the risk on a trade and help users stay in control.
This app is not for everyone and is only recommended to those who have a full understanding of how spread betting, Forex trading and CFD trading works.

Almost. All apps can be accessed from the one login, with the exception of Tradefair.
The Tradefair app requires a completely separate account to be registered and has no connection at all to the other apps within the Betfair range.
Can I deposit funds in to my Betfair sports account and use it to play games on the Betfair casino app?
The Betfair sports app uses the same wallet system as the Exchange app, Bingo app Casino app, Arcade app and Live Casino app. Users can use the funds from one wallet to bounce between any of these apps.
However separate wallets are used for the Betfair Poker app and Betfair Exchange Games app. Funds from the sports wallet are required to be transferred in to the poker app and Exchange games app in order to play them.
Any funds wished to be withdrawn will need to be transferred back to the sports account as this is the only account that contains the withdraw feature.
The Tradefair app is completely separate and has its own isolated wallet system.
